Company details in Schema.org
How complete is the structured company data, with logo, address, opening hours, service area and services?
What we check
This check builds on the structured company data. We look for the entry that describes the company or organisation and count six details:
| Detail | Schema.org fields |
|---|---|
| Business type | @type, e.g. Organization, LocalBusiness or Dentist |
| Logo | logo or image |
| Address | address |
| Opening hours | openingHours or openingHoursSpecification |
| Service area | areaServed, serviceArea or geo |
| Services | e.g. hasOfferCatalog, makesOffer, knowsAbout, serviceType |
If three or fewer are present, there is a warning, with four or five a note. If the company entry is missing altogether, this check is not measurable and does not count towards the score. The check "Structured company data" reports and rates the gap, so it does not cost points twice.
Why it matters
When an AI assistant describes or recommends a company, it likes to take over details that are clearly stated. What is missing is guessed, taken from outdated directories or left out.
- Opening hours: if the company has branches, counters or a practice, "Is the branch open on Saturday?" is a typical question to AI assistants.
- Service area: an insurer operates in certain countries, a delivery service in certain regions, a gardener from Leeds also in Bradford and Wakefield. Without a statement machines do not know this.
- Services: an insurer that also offers travel and pet insurance is found for them only if these services are named clearly.
- Logo: Google and other services use it next to the name.
How to fix it
Add the missing fields to the existing company entry:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Corporation",
"name": "Example Insurance Ltd",
"logo": "https://www.example.co.uk/logo.png",
"address": {
"@type": "PostalAddress",
"streetAddress": "5 Park Lane",
"postalCode": "LS1 4AB",
"addressLocality": "Leeds",
"addressCountry": "GB"
},
"openingHoursSpecification": [{
"@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
"dayOfWeek": ["Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday"],
"opens": "08:00",
"closes": "17:00"
}],
"areaServed": ["United Kingdom", "Ireland"],
"knowsAbout": ["Home contents insurance", "Travel insurance", "Pet insurance"]
}
You describe more detailed services with hasOfferCatalog and individual Service entries.
WordPress
Rank Math (module "Local SEO") and Yoast Local SEO have form fields for logo, opening hours and service area. For services a schema plugin such as "Schema & Structured Data for WP" or an addition by the agency helps.
Website builders
In Wix and Squarespace fill in the business information completely, including opening hours and logo. For service area and services you usually need custom JSON-LD, which you insert in the advanced SEO section of the home page.
How to check it yourself
The Schema Markup Validator (validator.schema.org) shows all fields of the company entry. Compare them with the table above.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to list all services individually?
No. The most important ones are enough, about five to ten. What matters is that they match the services visibly described on the website.
What do I enter under "service area"?
The countries, regions or towns in which the company operates or delivers. For an online shop, for example, "United Kingdom" and "Ireland", for a regional energy supplier from Leeds "Leeds", "Bradford" and "West Yorkshire". This way AI assistants recognise for which places the offer is an option.
